My Favorite VW Feature

Took a look out my office window and saw that it looks like rain. It’s hot here today so I had left my windows and moonroof cracked.

No problem. I just ran outside, stuck my key in the drivers door lock, turned it clockwise and held. After a second or two, the windows rolled up and the moonroof closed.

VW has had this feature for a long time. What other cars do this?

You can do it remotely with modern Ford’s.

Good, I’ll enjoy it even more when we get a Fusion.

As a resident of TX, I particularly enjoyed this feature when I came to my car in a parking lot, though more for putting the windows down.

Make sure you pick the 17 Fusion and it’ll tell you exactly how to do it. You can even stop them mid way in opening or closing to set em how you want - all with the key fob.

My CLK does it when you hold down the lock button on the remote. You can also open the windows with the unlock button.

I don’t know why, but I never think to do that. It only comes to mind when they need to go up.

Can you not just close them all by pressing and holding the ‘lock’ button down?

I can open and close mine by pressing the ‘unlock’ or ‘lock’ button and holding till either fully open/closed or let go of the button when they are open or closed to where I want them.

Mine is a Skoda but I understand it’s on all VAG car, many Fords and Vauxhalls.

Also works via the remote locking on the VW’s, can’t remember what specific key to hold

BMW and VAG have had this for a while my 02 M3 does it remotely. The Audi will put them down remotely but I have to use the key to put them up. That is probably something that can be changed via vagcom.

All I know is that VWs and Audis have it. Wouldn’t surprise me if Skoda or any other VAG product has it too

Not sure the remote buttons are coded from the factory. If you know someone with the VagCom cable and software, you can add window roll down AND up with remote buttons, as well as rain-sensing auto-close if your VW has auto wipers.

The thing I like most visually, is it opens all the windows at the same time and level so there isn’t one window higher than the other.

Remember after pressing and holding the unlock button to ope ope windows, to press the lock button to lock the doors again, but most cars relock themselves if no door is opened in a given time (I think mine is 30 seconds).

I use this on my DieselGolf a lot only I use the lock button on the fob. I just look out the window at the rain and watch my windows and sunroof close while I stay dry.

Citroen, Peugeot, Renault and Opel have them too, it seems that Europeans like to add these little features in their cars. Same thing with the automatic rear wiper when you put the car in reverse and the automatic tilt down passenger mirror.

At least on VWs, there’s ways to fix that.

(Now if only I knew how to do that on my Prius, where I enabled down using the remote, but can’t do up.)

Out of all the cars I’ve encountered, just the germans.

The Mini Convertible had a thing where you could open and close the roof with the remote.

Mercedes can do it through the fob, but it requires you to be pointing at the car and very close, very unreliable to do in a pinch

I had to use the vagcom to enable it, but both my audis will both raise and lower Windows with the key fob, no need to put key in the door. I don't think my s4 has a visible key slot, come to think about it. Probably covered like on the passats.

Newer Hondas have this feature. But it’s just like VW in that the key can open the windows remotely but not close them.

I also open the side doors of our Odyssey remotely before we get in. It makes a huge difference.

Not in USA/Canada. Because litigation.

I can roll down the windows, open the sunroof, but not close them with the remote for my car.

I will have to try the lock trick. That worked in my E30 too, IIRC.

My 2014 Xi does this too, but I think it was specifically coded by the previous owner. Holding lock closes everything, holding unlock opens everything.

Jersey 2010 Golf TDI. Windows/Sunroof close with the lock button and windows only go down when holding the unlock button. I bought the car used and it came this way :) Like others have said, if you can find someone with a VAGcom cable they can set up this feature. Dealer can too but may charge you more.

If you’re going to go to the car and put your key in, you may as well get in and close the windows etc manually. It doesn’t seem like the height of modern convenience if you can’t even do it remotely :P
